On 24 November 2025, the Ciberimaginario Research Group of URJC successfully delivered the activity “Unsustainable Lies: Debunking myths about renewable energy waste” as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR).
The initiative offered an innovative approach to addressing waste related to renewable energy technologies and the misinformation surrounding it, through an augmented reality (AR) scavenger hunt. Using participatory dynamics, attendees engaged with content, narratives and evidence to identify and counter misleading claims, strengthening critical thinking on sustainability-related issues.
The session involved students from the Higher Vocational Training Programme in Marketing and Advertising at C.I.F.P. Federica Montseny, who played an active role in the activities designed to foster scientific communication and informed reflection on the energy transition.
Implemented within the framework of the eComciencia and POWER projects, and funded by the 19th Call for Support for the Organisation of Academic Activities of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, the action combined immersive storytelling, gamification and content analysis to promote a more rigorous understanding of challenges related to energy waste.
Feedback from both students and teachers was highly positive, highlighting the engaging and enjoyable format, its effectiveness in raising awareness, and its ability to spark reflection and discussion on a topic as relevant as sustainability.
This activity forms part of the WP4: Communication, Dissemination, and Awareness Raising actions within the POWER project.
