Clean Energy Café Spain 2026 explores how to communicate the energy transition and strengthen public acceptance of renewables

by | May 30, 2026 | Events

As a featured activity within the III Future of Energy Conference organised by the REGENERA Chair for Energy Transition, the second Spanish edition of the Clean Energy Café with Science Communicators brought together researchers, science communicators, journalists, institutional representatives and experts in renewable energy acceptance to discuss one of the key challenges of the energy transition: how to communicate it effectively in a context increasingly shaped by uncertainty, polarisation and disinformation.

The event was held within the framework of the European project POWER and in collaboration with the REGENERA Chair for Energy Transition, reinforcing a shared commitment to promoting informed public debate around renewable energy, sustainability and social acceptance. Building on the objectives of the Clean Energy Cafés initiative, the meeting created a space for dialogue between communication professionals and experts working on the social dimensions of the energy transition.

Through a series of interviews and discussions, participants reflected on the main barriers affecting public understanding of renewable energy projects and explored strategies to improve communication with citizens and local communities. Particular attention was given to the role of trust, transparency, participation and evidence-based communication in addressing concerns related to renewable energy deployment.

The conversations highlighted the importance of moving beyond purely technical narratives and incorporating social, cultural and territorial perspectives into communication strategies. Participants also examined how misinformation and misleading narratives can influence public perception of renewable energy technologies, underlining the need for stronger collaboration between researchers, communicators and institutions.

As part of the event, several experts and communicators shared their views on two central questions: what are the main challenges facing the energy transition today, and how should this transition be communicated to improve its social acceptance? Their contributions provide valuable insights into the development of more inclusive, accessible and effective approaches to clean energy communication.

This new edition of the Clean Energy Café with Science Communicators further strengthens the collaboration between the POWER project and the REGENERA Chair, contributing to the development of critical competencies, media literacy and public engagement practices that support a fair, sustainable and socially accepted energy transition.
