As part of the Madrid Science and Innovation Week 2025, the Ciberimaginario Research Group of URJC delivered the activity “Unsustainable Lies: Reality vs Disinformation”, reinforcing the commitment of the POWER project to communication, dissemination and awareness raising around sustainability and energy transition issues.
Held on 10 November, the activity was designed to enhance knowledge and critical understanding of key processes related to sustainability and the ecological transition, with a particular focus on students aged 16 to 24. The initiative was aligned with the strategic frameworks of the eComciencia and POWER projects.
Participants from vocational education programmes were invited to explore disinformation narratives through augmented reality (AR) experiences distributed across different locations on the Fuenlabrada Campus of Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. Through a gamified AR-based scavenger hunt, students used QR codes to discover four key points highlighting actions and challenges linked to sustainability and ecological transition.
The AR representations displayed on their mobile devices enabled participants to collect evidence, analyse misleading narratives and debunk false claims, progressing through the itinerary until reaching the final stage of the activity. In this way, the campus itself became a space for discovery, inquiry and learning.

The main objective of the activity was to strengthen post-compulsory secondary education students’ competencies in countering sustainability-related disinformation, while also fostering their connection with Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and expanding their understanding of sustainability and energy transition topics.
Organised by the Ciberimaginario Research Group and the XR COM LAB at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, the experience demonstrated the potential of immersive technologies, particularly augmented reality, as effective tools for scientific communication and public engagement.

This action forms part of the ongoing work developed by Ciberimaginario through the eComciencia and POWER projects, aimed at strengthening responsible communication on sustainability and energy, promoting citizen participation, and exploring innovative ways of communicating science through immersive technologies and co-creation processes. The activity is also aligned with the Climate Warriors initiative.
