The Ciberimaginario Research Group at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) is organising the workshop “XR Workshop: Communicating the Energy Transition through Virtual Worlds”, to be held on 30 June and 1 July 2026 at the URJC Aranjuez Campus, as part of the XXVII edition of the URJC Summer Courses.
This activity is directly connected to the POWER project (Prevention Of Weaponization and Enhancing Resilience against Security-related Disinformation on Clean Energy, Erasmus+ 2024-1-RO01-KA220-HED-000245038). The workshop addresses one of POWER’s core objectives: promoting informed, fact-based public discussions about clean energy. By training students to create immersive WebXR experiences that communicate the energy transition, the workshop directly contributes to building energy literacy and societal resilience against disinformation — key pillars of the POWER project.
During the two-day intensive programme, interdisciplinary teams of communication and STEM students will design and publish virtual environments that transform complex energy data into engaging, accessible narratives. The workshop integrates clean energy concepts from the POWER project’s research, including findings from the multilingual lexicon and the Task Force activities on disinformation narratives affecting clean energy adoption.
The programme features an inaugural panel with the participation of the URJC Chair of Energy Transition and the URJC Chair of Circular Economy, a keynote on immersive communication by César Urbina (Innovation Director, Iralta Films), and hands-on production sessions using FrameVR. Final presentations will be evaluated by Emili Blanque, President of InmersivaXR.
This initiative forms part of the ongoing work developed by Ciberimaginario through the POWER, UPRAISE and eComciencia projects, aimed at strengthening responsible communication on sustainability and energy, promoting citizen participation, and exploring innovative ways of communicating science through immersive technologies and co-creation processes.
