From fact-checking to storytelling: POWER’s Clean Energy Café brings collaborative learning to Bucharest

by | Nov 6, 2026 | Events

The five-day programme connected clean energy literacy, immersive experiences and creative communication through a shared challenge: developing evidence-based responses to disinformation.

From 2 to 6 November 2026, the POWER Clean Energy Café in Bucharest brought together international teams at the “Mihai Viteazul” National Intelligence Academy. The programme linked narrative mapping, source verification and campaign development within a continuous learning journey.

One team, one campaign, five days

Working in teams of four, participants progressed from identifying misleading narratives to preparing fact-checking sheets, debunking threads and counter-narrative comics. The programme culminated in campaign pitches, connecting the week’s activities through a common project.

The April 2025 Spanish blackout provided a case study for examining energy-related disinformation. Virtual reality investigations, an augmented reality gymkhana on hydropower and location-based storytelling added experiential dimensions to the workshops.

Making evidence accessible

The educational challenge extends beyond finding reliable information: how can evidence become a story that people understand, question and share?

By connecting analytical tasks with creative production, the Café’s design placed that question at the centre of collaborative learning. This approach reflects POWER’s wider work to connect research, education and public engagement in support of informed participation in the energy transition.
